About Climbing in Okinawa

Greetings,

If you like steep sport climbing; welcome to Okinawa. The routes here vary in length from 30 to 120 feet, but are better known for their steepness and aesthetic locations. The angle of overhang varies from just over vertical (say 75 to 80 degrees) to really overhanging. During the summer the humidity kicks in with a vengeance, making the ocean below look much more appealing from the cliffs above.

About this Guide

  • This website can be used as a resource for climbing sites exisiting in Okinawa.
  • You are welcome to feedback me about the site and I will see what can be done to improve the site.
  • If the mileage I gave in the getting there section is wrong, according to your odometer, check your tires to ensure you have the correct size wheels.
  • Do send me pictures or upload them in the Gallery Section. I might use some of your pictures in the webpages.

About the grades

  • Okinawa, like most of Japan, uses the Yosemite Decimal System (YDS).
  • In this guide, I have used the combination of personal experience and local climbers' experience to determine the grade. When all else failed, I GUESSED.
  • Those of you who think the grades are soft; you are probably taller than my Japanese friends.
  • Those who think the grades are stiff; learn to climb better.
  • If you think a route is dangerous, please contact me via the Contact Us page.
